Many places claim to be "among the remaining wilderness areas" or "one of the last wildlife sanctuaries"; South Luangwa National Park lives up to both and more. The Luangwa Valley is vast, remote and home to both people and a truly impressive variety of game.
Nkwali is located on the banks of the Luangwa on a magnificent meander in the river overlooking the National Park where leopards roam along the bank and can often be spotted from camp. Situated on Robin Pope Safaris’ private land outside the park there is a private game viewing area behind camp as well as exclusive access into the park either by boat or across the pontoon.
The six chalets with bamboo woven walls and thatch roofs offer a rustic luxury opening up to magnificent views of the river as well as open air en-suite bathrooms.
Nkwali offers understated elegance, seclusion and superb service.

The South Luangwa National Park marks the end of the Great Rift Valley, one of the last remaining unspoilt wilderness areas and possibly the finest wildlife sanctuary in Africa - a claim which is not an overstatement.
It is through this 9050sq kilometer National Park that the great meandering Luangwa River runs, with its ox bow lagoons, tributaries, riverine supported woodlands and large plains, all of which play host to huge concentrations of game including elephant, buffalo, leopard, lion, giraffe, hippo and over 450 species of birds.
Situated in the exclusive Nsefu Sector Tena Tena sits nestled under a magnificent and thick grove of mahogany trees. On a double tiered river bank each room enjoys its own private view onto a long stretch of the Luangwa River.
Tena Tena is synonymous with Robin Pope Safaris as it was the first camp which Robin opened and ran and has become a favourite amongst many safari lovers over the years.

The beautiful sparkling colours shimmering over the water, the clear blue skies and the panoramic vistas truly make you feel like you are in paradise. David Livingstone named Lake Malawi ‘Lake of Stars’ for good reason. According to experts this lake is home to more native fish species than any other lake in the world.
The ten villas are situated in such a way that they blend in completely with the natural surroundings and the cooling grass roofs reflect the African sun.

Upon arrival at Mfuwe International Airport, you will be met by one of our representatives and transferred to Nkwali Camp, a 1-hour drive through local villages and bush. Depending on your arrival time, you will enjoy a lunch or an afternoon tea, with the evening spent on a game-drive.
At dawn, breakfast is served around the campfire, with a morning game-drive soon after, entering the park by boat from the camp or by road via the main gate. After returning, the rest of the day can be spent at leisure, sitting by the pool, viewing game from the riverfront or just relaxing. After tea, you will go on an evening game drive, coming back in the dark, so as to be able to see nocturnal species.
After an early breakfast, a transfer game-drive through the park takes you to a crossing point on the Luangwa River, where the Nsefu or Tena Tena staff will meet you and transfer you to your accommodation, viewing game en-route.
Over the next few days, twice-daily game-drives or walks will be on offer, or you may decide to explore the Nsefu Sector of the National Park, possibly with an all-day picnic drive to the salt pans that will cover a wide selection of diverse habitats and will hopefully provide excellent game-viewing.
You will have the option of visiting a Kawaza village, meeting the locals and experiencing Zambian daily life, is also a possibility.

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Mfuwe Airport for your flight to Lilongwe. On arrival at Lilongwe’s Kamuzu Airport, you will be met by our staff, who will assist with immigration procedures and the payment of airport taxes. Our representative will then assist with check in for your next flight to Monkey Bay, the closest airstrip to Pumulani, where you will spend 5 nights on a full-board basis.
Over the next few days, you can live life at leisure. Our remote beach setting is ideal for those who simply want to soak up the sun and swim in the clear blue waters of the lake.
For those seeking activity, we offer many water-based activities like snorkelling, fishing, sailing, kayaking, water-skiing, and wake-boarding. In the evenings, a dhow cruise is available, which stops to allow you to see the sun set over the lake. There is also a picnic outing on offer, which takes you to various islands and into the National Park.
